Tidewater Art Gallery at Lincolin Center Live! Art and Wine Stroll
STA70049

Artwork on display from Tidewater Art Gallery Artists.

Chills Kick Off 2010 LIVE!

On Friday, June 18th, Pristine white tents marked a pathway among booths set up by artists for the community to enjoy their talents. LIVE 2010 included live music, art, wine and live bands.

Businesses enjoyed patron’s visits as 13 wineries poured inside their stores. "Setting up the wine inside the businesses made sense," shared Mark Alonso resident of Stockton. "Not only do we get an opportunity to wine taste but businesses are offering great prices today," remarked Mr. Alonso.

On the other hand, artists encountered a different predicament, temperatures slightly dropped, and winds picked up towards the later part of the evening. "We had to pick-up early and go," shared Gay Lynn, volunteer at the Tidewater Gallery. The Tidewater Gallery, as well as other artists, displayed a number of pieces through the pathway; but encountered a challenge to keep the art straight.

LIVE at Lincoln Center is scheduled for the next 4 weeks on the 2nd Friday of the month. Up coming themes include the All-American Block Party Charity Fair, Car Show and Literacy LIVE!

Ra, The Egyptian Sun-God. Ra, a representational-expressionist Stockton artist who expresses herself in acrylic paint, charcoal, watercolor, photography and digital media. In spite of her short years, Ra art has already been exposed in Atlanta and Valdosta, Georgia, as well as San Francisco, Lodi, and Stockton, California.

Now, “The Rising of Ra” her latest art show, is scheduled between May 4th through June 4, 2010 at the Tidewater Art Gallery. An artist reception will be held on May 14th.

What inspires you to do artwork?

“My artwork is a pouring of emotions on the canvas. Oftentimes you can tell the mood that I was in working on a piece. Was I happy, Sad, or Angry? That is the Expressionist in me. However, unlike the Abstract Expressionist movement I use Representational items and the occasional figure or portrait to embellish my emotions. I will create a focal point with realism or high detail and move out to the edges of the canvas with dripping, splattering or emotional marks”.

Are there any people in your life that have encouraged you?

There are many influences. My grandmother was the initial inspiration and as I grew older there were others. I remember my first art classes at Valdosta State University one of my professors, Harry Alley, truly encouraged me. I created a self-portrait in charcoal and as I worked on it he sat in his chair just observing with the occasional question. When I completed the work he took me aside, photographed me with the artwork, and said to me that “I had what it took.” Mr. Alley didn’t give away complements and I really took what he said seriously because of that. That moment changed my life drastically. From then on, I was an artist. I will be displaying that self-portrait at the Tidewater in May. It has never been shown in California before”.

Is Ra your given name?

“No. It is actually Sarah. I was 12 when I went to an Egyptian Museum with my grandparents for my birthday. My grandparents called me Ra ever since because it is the ending sound of my first name and because of the Egyptian Sun God”.

What can we expect to see at your upcoming exhibit?

“I will be showcasing a variety of mediums. You can expect to see the unexpected. It will be Edgy, hip, and thought-provoking”.
